The Royal Order of Hound-Wizards, notable for their badge of a black hound on scarlet. Dating back to the days of Robert II, the Order was founded by renegade Moorish wizards from Iberia who took refuge at the court of Robert the Pious on the eve of the First Millennium. Led by the wizard Alzephox, the Order helped the armies of France and Barcelona defeat the Iberian general Almanzor in 998, a fact that even won praise from the Papacy.
The trade in artifacts had always been troublesome to the Crown as well as the Church. As magically-inclined neutral arbiters, the Royal Order of Hound-Wizards established the governing laws of magic in the 11th Century. Aided by the power of the Pack Arcanus, the Order constantly seeks those who illegally sequester magic items and flaunts royal authority.
The Order built the Dark Tower, an eyesore of a black tower in the heart of Paris, early in the 12th Century. They run a vigorous program of apprentices.
The current Chief Hound is Francois Demaire, Baron of Ambres.
