Experience, Standing, Influence, and Heroism
Experience Points
Influence points are awarded as per experience. Every 2500 xp you would normally receive turns into 1 Influence point and 1 Hero point. In addition, certain actions may automatically raise or increase your Standing within a faction, or that faction’s Influence within the kingdom.
Allegiances
There are numerous factions in France. Every character must choose one Allegiance. This gives you a +2 bonus to your Standing with that particular individual, however, whoever you choose has an Enemy, and you have a -4 penalty to your Standing with that person.
Factions have two ratings:
(a) Your Standing within the Faction
(b) The Faction’s Influence within the kingdom.
Getting Something From A Faction
You can petition a faction to get something you need. This is not handled as a Diplomacy check (which is used with individuals when they aren't representing a faction).
First the faction needs to make an Influence Check (d20 + Influence) vs. the DC to see if they're even capable of doing what they're asking.
If this is successful, you need to make a Standing Check (d20 + Standing + Charisma bonus) vs. the DC to see if they’ll give it to you. These things include:
Receive Hospitality DC 10
Get Minor Supplies DC 13
Refuge DC 20 (normal circumstances)
Refuge DC 25 (outlawed)
Refuge DC 30 (excommunicated)
Loan of a Magic Item/Relic DC 25
Loan of Gold DC 20 +1 per 1000 Gold
Gesture of Political Support DC 15 (popular cause)
Gesture of Political Support DC 23 (unknown cause)
Gesture of Political Support DC 30 (unpopular cause)
Raise Military Force
Knights DC25+1 per 10 knights
Army DC 30+1 per 50 footmen
Increasing Standing
Every Influence point you earn may be spent to improve your standing in an organization. The cost of increasing Standing is 1 Influence point. The costs scale as they get higher: they cost the same as a point buy system.
Increasing Influence
You can also spend Influence to attempt to increase a faction’s Influence. The costs are identical to those of increasing your Standing, however, every time you do that, you decrease your Standing with their enemy unless you also spend a second Influence point (it may be worth it to keep good relations with both King Louis and King Henry).
You can also decrease a faction’s Influence. This costs you 2 points of Standing with them. If you’re lower than 5 with them, you can’t decrease it any further.
Note: You can increase the Influence of a Secret Society medieval society without affecting your Standing with the enemy. That’s why it’s a secret society.

A person can drop in Standing by ignoring social customs and showing disrespect. If they lose Standing, they'll get a corresponding Hero point.
