Maurice De Sully, Bishop Of Paris

A man of humble origins whose scholarship and formidable preaching skills led him to become Bishop of Paris in 1160. His first act was to demolish Paris's cathedral and replace it with a far more imposing edifice, which he intends to dedicate to the Virgin Mary.

Maurice de Sully is highly regarded by King Louis and is one of his closest advisors. He's also a friend of Thomas a-Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, and is attempting to plead his case with the Pope (in Thomas's continuing struggles with King Henry II).
