Session 3

In a small house in Paris, The Dragon Romany has a vision from St. Michael telling him that he's been transformed into his vessel. He wakes up and discovers his flesh is now flecked with golden scales. A guard bangs on his door; the Dragon opens it, and the guard flees.

The Dragon, hearing the guard scream about a dragon attacking the city, follows him to help him hunt it down. A comical chase ensues, which culminates in the reunion of the Company, the revelation of the Dragon's new form, and the intervention of the Bishop of Paris, who tests the Dragon's new form and determines that it's holy.

The Lady Durn returns to her husband, who greets her with a selection of newly baked dragon shaped pastries. He is disappointed that his beloved didn't return with dragonsblood, as that makes an excellent gravy.

Quentin and Alton trade barbs with a member of the Equestrus Crepusculi, the rogue knights who are the company's enemies. The knight accuses them of failure in the expedition to slay the Flame of Death. Quentin loudly proclaims that his enemy has just sworn an oath to perform the deed, and urges him to begin his quest immediately.

The Company meets with King Louis and other counsellors. The Raven Knight was found signalling those who had kidnapped Louis Phillipe, but had been waylaid before he could complete his escape. The Lord Constable swore he'd confessed to the crime, and when Durn asks if it had been under torture, he answers "of course".

The Company swears to rescue the kidnapped prince, who (as guided by divine signs) was kidnapped by the Unseelie Court. As the Prince's royal blood will resist the effects of Faerie, the Unseelie have taken him to the Tower of Thirteen Cradles to "prepare" him for entry to the Unseelie Court.

The Company makes their way to the Door to the Unseelie, which is guarded by a huge chimera. Each person will need to create a key to enter, which is crafted by "an act of unkindness to one who does not deserve it". The Company, mostly due to Alton's insistance on using fire magicks against his fellows, immediately dissolves into squabbling. A disgusted Durn kills a rat and gets a key. Eventually, all four get keys, settle down, and enter the Unseelie realm, a land of dire gloom. They encounter cows with the faces of women, whose piteous cries mix bovine sounds with the wailing of mothers. Imps chase them as they weep milk from their udders.

The Company makes their way into the tower. They enter a labyrinth where ghostly apparitions, mothers lamenting the dead infants they hold in their arms, wander without ceasing. The invisibility magicks of Alton help them avoid it.

They come to the first nursery, where human and goblin babes lie together in a cradle and nibble on each other. Hags guard the room, but the Company smites them without incident.

They enter the room of a Faerie Prince, the Duke of Naught. Durn slits his throat, but a magic gem on a chain like a pocket watch flickers, and the lost blood and life force are sucked back through the wound, which seals. He merrily applauds the half-orc's murdering skills and bades them to enter the second nursery. The Prince, he claims, is alone in a third nursery, near the summit of the tower.
