Nationality: French
Open Allegiances: Louis VII
Suspected Allegiances: The Dragon Court.

Arturius of Vermandois, born in 1128 as the illegitimate son of Ralph, Count of Vermandois. Raised in an abbey, he maintained a close friendship with half-brother, Hugh (who resigned from the position of count to become a monk in 1160).

Prompted by reports of Saracen atrocities, Arturius joined the Crusades in 1145. He vowed that whenever he stepped onto a battlefield, the ravens would follow in his wake, a vow that earned him the title "The Raven Knight". He joined with a collection of young heroes at the end of that war, swearing an oath of eternal loyalty to each other and to France.

After the war, Arturius was a wandering knight, who is believed to have travelled everywhere from Africa to the Danelands. In 1150, he married Alix of Amiens. They have two sons, Hugh (b. 1151) and Guilliame (b. 1153).

In 1162, he broke away from his wanderings and joined the king's guard. In 1165, he rose to the position of Captain of Arms.

He is a tall (over 6 feet), handsome man with long raven-dark hair, dark eyes and a pale complexion. His banner is a black raven on a field of red.
